Costa Mesa Loosens Restrictions on ADUs
The city of Costa Mesa has established new rules to enable more residents to build accessory dwelling units on their properties.
Costa Mesa City Council has reduced the minimum lot size for accessory units in single-family areas to 7,900 square feet from 8,500 square feet.
Even though more homeowners will be able to build an ADU, they will still be limited in size. Detached and attached units would be limited to 800 square feet, down from the 1,200 square feet currently allowed.
